Middle and High School Special Programs

ACT Prep
Beginning in the late fall of 2020, MTCS partnered with ACT Mom, Kati Johnson, to provide high quality ACT prep. Mrs. Johnson is from Lexington, KY and brings her unique program to students, in-person and on campus. Her class consists of three, three-hour sessions during which she breaks down the four main ACT subsections and teaches students strategies for ACT success. Her approach is both interactive and hands-on. MTCS has seen growth and significant gains in ACT scores since bringing Mrs. Johnson to campus. Mrs. Johnson typically comes 2-3 times per year to work with MTCS students. In addition to Mrs. Johnson, our curriculum is based on  both TN State Standards and ACT Standards, so our students see ACT-type questions and content before them regularly.

Honors Diploma Program
MTCS students who want to earn an Honors Diploma are required to take five of our multiple upper-level course offerings, which include Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and Honors. Students also choose between an internship, organizing a service project, or writing a thesis which is presented before their peers, teachers, and a panel. Students who successfully completed these requirements receive the Honors Diploma and are designated by a gold cord at graduation.
Junior and Senior Beta Club
Beta Club is an academic service club whose members meet a minimum grade and service hour requirement.  Each year, MTCS inducts students into both Junior and Senior Beta Club during a special spring ceremony. Beta Club students compete at the State Convention each year at Opryland and regularly place in the top five in academic, fine arts, and technology competitions. Most recently, students placed well enough at the State level to move on to Nationals in Mixed Media Art, Recyclable Art, and Jewelry. Students in Beta Club also serve our school by being hosts and hostesses at our annual Steak Dinner and Legacy of Light events. MTCS Betas work together to fulfill the Beta mission, “Let us lead by serving others.”
HOSA
Future Health Professionals, is an international student-led organization that promotes educational, networking, and career opportunities in healthcare and supports young people who plan to become the next generation of health professionals. Membership in HOSA, formerly known as “Health Occupations Students of America”, is open to students from the middle school to the postgraduate level. In 2019, MTCS chartered its first HOSA chapter and each subsequent year has seen an increase in membership. The MTCS HOSA chapter promotes leadership, teambuilding, communication, and responsibility through a variety of events that involve competition, health education, and community outreach. The MTCS chapter’s largest event for the year is the Elementary Health Fair, an education and awareness activity organized for grades TK through 3rd grade. In this event, elementary students rotate through stations where they receive age-appropriate instruction on different aspects of health from HOSA members. The younger students have fun while learning important health-related concepts at the same time.

MTCS Honey Farm
One of God’s sweetest creations is the honeybee, which became part of the MTCS Sixth-grade curriculum as an active observation hive was installed in the Science classroom by Mr. Priestly.  Honeybees connect to the Science standards and help integrate Christian evidences with a hands-on approach.  The observation hive is also used for community outreach, as MTCS students take it to nursing homes and county schools to teach others about the importance of the Honeybee in our eco-system and God’s sweet designs.  Student interest continues to grow with the formation of the MTCS Honey Farm.  In the Spring of 2022, MTCS will have five producing beehives on the back of our property. Being an integral part of agriculture, the bees and the MTCS Bee Club are serving as a backbone for the MTCS Agricultural Program.  We are excited to see where the bees take us!

MTCS Robotics
MTCS Robotics is overseen by Mr. Priestly.  Students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields of study will be challenged as they problem solve and learn the importance of collaboration and teamwork.  This course of study combines classroom and experimental work in electronics, coding, computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering.  The program includes Lego First middle school and high school Vex competition teams, as well as an elective class for those who simply want to learn more about the engineering and programming of robotics.  Daily, MTCS Robotics researches God’s world through the lens of His Word, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

Academic Support
We offer free, daily math labs in the mornings and afternoons. We also have a free, morning Spanish lab students can take advantage of. Our teachers are always willing to come in early and/or stay late to work with students who may need extra help.
