Please
mark your calendars for the 3rd annual Touchdowns and Tunes event to be
held July 31st at the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville. Dinner
will be served at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a showcase of talented
songwriters and performers. Cost is $35, and tickets may be
purchased in the school office or from any high school football
player.
Trap Team
Accomplishments
Our
trap shooters represented MTCS with great team and individual
performances at the first ever AIM state shoot held at the Tennessee
Clay Target Complex in Nashville on June 10th. Our Junior team
(Todd Pirtle, John Mankin, Ethan Fetz, Lucas Smith, and Trey Hill) won
the Junior division championship outright by shooting a 967 out of 1000.
In addition to this great accomplishment, Austin Lowe (shooting with our
other Junior team) tied for the high overall score by shooting a 197 out
of 200. Our 4th and 5th graders also did well and shot their
personal best, finishing as state runner-ups. The pre-sub team
included Taylor Bolin, Garrett Sweeney, Sam Mathis, Nathan Smith, and
Hunter Vaughn. Congratulations!
New Football Website
MTCS/MTSU
alumnus Jason Brunner and his broadcast partner Jeremy Smith have
developed a new website devoted to Cougar Football -- www.thisiscougarfootball.com.
The site contains valuable information about our coaches, players, and
opponents. These young men also spent many hours during our fall
2008 football season recording play-by-play action of all regular season
games. They are now making CDs of these games available to Cougar
fans. Ordering
information can be obtained by visiting the new website.

Tennis
Region and District Championship Titles
Congratulations
to Matthew Coats and Katie Kahler for capturing the boys and girls Region
6-A/AA singles championship titles on Monday, May 11th after picking up
the District 11-A/AA singles championship titles just 6 days
earlier. John Mankin placed runner-up in the district championship
and advanced to the region match where he picked up a 2nd place
finish. Matthew and Katie advanced to the TSSAA state tournament
-- marking the first time in school
history that two players from the same sport have advanced to the Spring
Fling. Our boys' tennis team completed their regular season with a perfect
record of 11-0, marking the first time in school history that our tennis
team has gone undefeated. The Cougars, under the leadership of Coach
Lawrence Goodwyn, posted wins over Page High
School (twice), Heritage Christian Academy (twice), Ezell-Harding,
Marshall County (twice), Van Buren County, Spring Hill, and the much
larger schools of Blackman and Riverdale and placed 2nd in the team
district tournament. Way to go, Cougars!
Soccer Team
District Champions
Congratulations
to our high school boys soccer team for capturing the 11-A/AA district
championship on Friday, May 8th at Spring Hill
High School, defeating Page High School 2-0. They defeated East
Hickman in the semi-finals of the Region
Tournament on Tuesday, May 12th before falling to Columbia Academy in the
Regional championship title match. We are proud of you.
Junior
High Baseball League Champions
The
junior high baseball team finished 3rd in the regular season and defeated
Nashville Christian in post-season play for the League Championship on Tuesday, May
12th. The Cougars won 6-5 in extra innings. Luke Adams was
voted as an All-Conference player and named to the All-Star team, while
Lucas Smith was voted MVP of the league and named to the All-Star
team. Congratulations to Coach Todd Hickey and all the Cougar
players!
Regional Trap
Competition
The
2009 Regional SCTP Trap competition was held May 2nd and 3rd in
preparation for the Tennessee State competition later this month.
The state is divided into four regions and we participate in Region 2.
In the Middle Tennessee Region (Region 2) that the event had to be held
in two separate locations because so many teams participated.
Because of the separation, the
winners have just been announced. Congratulations to the varsity
team for a third place tie with Coffee County by shooting a 474 out of
500 and to the Rookie team for FIRST place in Region 2 with a score of
430. Also congratulations
to Taylor Bolin who was HOA (High Over All) in the Rookie Division
breaking 97 out of 100 targets (in the pouring rain I might add) and
Stockton McDaniel who was HOA runner-up in the Rookie Alternate
division. Also, our Rookies shot the highest Rookie score for the
entire state! Varsity team
members are: Todd Pirtle, John Mankin, Ethan Fetz, Austin Lowe, Trey
Hill. Rookie team members are: Taylor Bolin, Garrett Sweeney, Sam
Mathis, Nathan Smith, and Will Brown. Alternates are: Hunter
Vaughn and
Stockton McDaniel.

to freshman Micah Farmer on winning the 400 meter dash east
sub-sectional and being the first student in MTCS history to qualify for
sectionals.
Junior High
Soccer Season
Congratulations
to our junior high boys soccer team for a successful season, posting a
record of 5 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. Many thanks are extended to
volunteer coach Steve Wilson for the numerous long hours he devoted to
working with and developing these young athletes during the
season.
Madrid/Paris
Trip
The MTCS trip to
Madrid and Paris in summer 2010 is sponsored by EF student tours. The more participants we have, the less likely we are to be combined with
another group. There will definitely be a subgroup going to Italy
together when the EF tour is over (extending the trip by about 4 days).
Current price including air from Nashville is about
$2400 for students and $2800 for adults. See the tour at www.eftours.com
tour # 678487.
