Students of the Month named

Congratulations to our Students of the Month:  Nathan Smith (junior high) and Taylor Sanders (high school).  This month’s character trait was Respect. 

MTCS Students take Art honors

MTCS senior Mallory Trammel won the Purchase Award from Journey's and the People's Choice Award for her oil painting "Jedidiah" at the area-wide Springhouse Art Exhibition. These are the two highest prizes given, and she was competing with area art students and professional artists. In the high school division, Mallory won second place and senior Nick Dennis won third. Congratulations to both these students for these great accomplishments. Their winning artwork, along with the artwork from other MTCS students that were accepted into the show, can be seen at the Springhouse Worship Center in Smyrna. They are open to the public on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

SCRIP Bonuses available

The holiday season has begun, and SCRIP is available to help you relieve some of the stress that goes along with it.  The last day to order SCRIP cards before Christmas will be Monday, December 12th.  That means there will be only 3 more orders placed in this calendar year.  Several merchants are offering bonus contributions for the holiday season:

Outback, Bonefish, Carrabba’s, Fleming’s (through 12/2) – 2% bonus, 10% total
Land’s End (through 12/9) – 2% bonus, 18% total
CVS Pharmacy (through 12/9) – 1% bonus, 7% total

In addition, two new merchants have been added to the SCRIP program:  Taco Bell (5%) and Groupon (7%). 

Holiday Gift Card Holders are available in a 10-pack for $2.00 each.

2011-2012 Sun Trust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes. Register now and first drawing will be held on Oct. 28th. Free to enter and eligibility not based on GPA or financial need.  One entry per drawing but students can register again for each drawing period. UTC announces the Grote Chemistry Scholarship Program - $3,500 per year for 4 years.  Eligible majors include all chemistry, biochemistry, UTEACH, pre-medicine, and pre-dental majors.  Go to www.utc.edu/chemistry and follow the scholarship link.  Deadline is February 15, 2012.

AXA Scholarship - 1.3 million available.  AXA Achievement Scholarship - apply by 12/1 and AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - apply by 2/1 both @ www.axa-achievement.com.

Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarships are available for Business majors.  Apply at www.scarlettfoundation.org.  Deadline is 12/15/11. 

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. This award is given to youth for volunteer work.  If a student is selected, he/she can receive $1000, a silver medallion, and a trip to Washington DC next May.  Interested students should visit http://spirit.prudential.com to apply.

Ken Shipp Scholarship is available for a student who will graduate in 2012 and plans to attend MTSU.The minimum required grade point average is 2.75. The student must exhibit good moral character and have financial need.
