October Students of the Month named

Congratulations to our students of the month for October, selected by our faculty: Kailee Marasco (junior high) and Rebekah Wade (high school). This month's theme was “joy.”

Cross Country places in Regional competition

Both the boys and the girls' Cross Country teams took 2nd place at the Region 6 A-AA competition held Thursday, October 27th, at the challenging 5K course at Henry Horton State Park. With 18 schools represented, it was a really tight race. Kip Kahler (11th grade) led the boys’ team, finishing 6th overall with a time of 18:52. Jenna Hixson (8th grade), who is running her first season of cross country, led the girls’ team finishing 7th with a personal best time of 23:15 on the hilly course.  Both teams will be competing at the Tennessee State Cross Country meet on Saturday, November 5th.

Homecoming Queen takes the crown

Congratulations to Natalie Foutch for being named Homecoming Queen 2011.  Natalie was crowned during festivities held on Friday, October 28th.  This year’s theme was “When you wish upon a touchdown.”  Photos of the evening can be seen in our online photo album.

Cougars sweep in Duck River playoffs

Congratulations to our Flag, Division 1, and Division 2 football teams for their wins in the Duck River playoffs this past weekend in Flintville.  The Flag team defeated Chapel Hill 34-14, Division 1 defeated Cascade 13-6, and Division 2 defeated Chapel Hill 20-0.  All three teams will play in the championship game this Saturday at Cascade.  MTCS is the only community with more than one team playing in the finals, and for the second straight year, three of our teams will be playing for the championship. The Flag game will kickoff at Cascade at 10:00 a.m. against Columbia Academy, Division 1 will play at 11:15 a.m. vs. Chapel Hill, and Division 2 will play at 12:45 p.m. against Cascade.  Admission is only $3 for all day.

Prospective Student Open House to be held November 3

MTCS will hold an open house for prospective students on November 3rd from 5:30-7:30. Please invite anyone who could benefit from a quality Christian education.    

Fall for Music concert to be held November 3

Please join us on Thursday night, November 3rd, at 7:30 p.m. in the A.N. Miller Gym for an evening of music performed by your very own Cougars!  Performing groups include the Elementary Chorus, 5th grade Band, 6th grade Band, Jr. High Chorus, and Jr. High Band.  Come out and support the Music Department at MTCS--admission is free! 

Powder Puff football game rescheduled for Friday

Due to weather conditions last Thursday, our annual Powder Puff football game will be held Friday, November 4th immediately after school.  Our freshmen through senior girls will compete and will be coached by the freshmen through senior boys. 

JH Powder Puff football to be played Wednesday

Our JH girls will have their powder puff football game during 7th period PE on Wednesday.

Pre-K Feast scheduled for November 17

Our PreK Family Feast will be held on Thursday, November 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingwood Heights church of Christ fellowship hall.  All pre-K students and their families are invited to join us for great food and fellowship.

For you Cougar fans who like to plan ahead, our junior high football schedule for 2012 is now available on our website. 

Steak Dinner to be held in November

Please join us on Thursday, November 10th at 6:30 p.m. for our 51st annual Steak Dinner. This year's speaker will be Rutherford County Mayor, Ernest Burgess. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased in the office. Contact Debbie Hofbauer (debbiehofbauer@mtcscougars.org) for more information.

Senior Parents:  Please encourage your students to begin applying for colleges now.  Most colleges request applications by November 1st.

Boys and Girls Club of Murfreesboro is looking for volunteers as tutors and for the MTSU parade float.  See Mallory Trammell for information.

2011-2012 Sun Trust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes. Register now and first drawing will be held on Oct. 28th. Free to enter and eligibility not based on GPA or financial need.  One entry per drawing but students can register again for each drawing period. Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation-Cola-Cola Scholars are selected based upon academic achievement, leadership qualities, and hours of dedicated community service.  The online application can be found at ww.coca-colascholars.org. The application deadline is October 31, 2011.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) is pleased to announce a student essay contest.  1st place is $5,000 Scholarship, 2nd place $2,500 and 3rd place $1000.  To enter, please read the rules, regulations and instructions posted here:  www.thefire.org/contests.  See Mrs. Mankin if you are interested.  Deadline is Nov. 5, 2011.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards - This award is given to youth for volunteer work.  If a student is selected, he/she can receive $1000, a silver medallion, and a trip to Washington DC next May.  Interested students should visit http://spirit.prudential.com to apply.

Ken Shipp Scholarship is available for a student who will graduate in 2012 and plans to attend MTSU.The minimum required grade point average is 2.75. The student must exhibit good moral character and have financial need.
