MTCS
Cougar Band
Our Band program begins in the 5th
grade, with the Beginner Band meeting twice a week.
The Beginner Band students have three main performances their first
year, including Grandparents Day, Solo and Ensemble, and the Spring
Concert. With 22 students
comprising the Beginner Band this year, we have been able to accomplish
some wonderful things together.
The second year Band class,
6th grade Band, picks up where the Beginner class left
off and finishes all material in the beginner band book.
The 6th grade Band students have three main performances
including Grandparents Day, Solo and Ensemble, and the Spring Concert.
This group also made a special appearance at the Cougar Den back in
the fall to introduce all the instruments to our MTCS four year olds-what
an experience! In 6th
grade, exceptional Band musicians are chosen to represent our school at
the Rutherford County All-Star Band in February.
(We had five this year!) By
the end of their second year of instruction, 6th grade Band
students are prepared to enter the Junior High Band.
Junior High Band,
made up of 7th and 8th graders, is considered our
intermediate Band class. The
Junior High Band students have several performances throughout the year:
Veteran’s Day, Christmas concert, Solo and Ensemble, and the
Spring Concert. Students may
also choose to participate in the Pep Band if they wish.
In 7th and 8th grade, exceptional musicians
are chosen to participate in the UT Martin Honor Band in January. (We had
two this year!) Talented
students may also choose to try out for Mid-State Band as early as 7th
grade. By the end of 8th
grade, Junior High Band students are prepared to enter the High School
Band.
High School Band,
made up of 9th-12th graders, is our most advanced
Band class. The High School
Band students participate and perform as a Football and Basketball Pep
Band. In the fall of 2009, we
will have our very first official Marching Band for football season!
The High School Band also performs at Veteran’s Day, the
Christmas concert, Patron’s meetings, Solo and Ensemble, and the Spring
Concert. Exceptional musicians
have the option of pursuing Honor Bands hosted by UT Martin, MTSU, and
Tennessee Tech, just to name a few. Talented
students may also choose to try out for Mid-State, which could then take
them all the way to All-State. By
the end of 12th grade, High School Band students are prepared
to continue making music in a College Band, if they so choose.
