Hurricane Relief Trip

October 15-19, 2005

During Fall Break, 21 MTCS seniors and juniors along with 13 adults (staff, parents, etc.) traveled to New Orleans to help the Belle Chasse Church of Christ with clean-up and rebuilding from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.  They were able to accomplish the following projects:

  • repair of  three homes

  • clearing of numerous yards of trees, limbs and debris

  • cleaning up three nursing homes in preparation for the residents’ return

  • shoring up the foundation of a home near the point where the eye of the storm crossed the Mississippi River

On the last day in New Orleans members, of the team were interviewed by CNN and met Mayor Ray Nagin.  We’re grateful to all who helped finance the trip with contributions and donation of materials (students raised over $1000), to the Belle Chasse Church of Christ for feeding and housing the team, to Mr. Eugene Mullins for providing transportation, and to all the students and adults who participated!  It was a great experience in serving others.
