ELEMENTARY HAPPENINGS
October 30, 2009
P.E.
is
a time for students to develop gross motor skills, promote daily physical
activity, learn how to stay healthy, develop good sportsmanship in team
and individual games, learn skills for various sports, and just have fun!
Our P.E. teachers incorporate a variety of activities to reach these
goals. Recently, Matt Russell developed some creative drills for the
students as they learned and practiced basketball skills in team relay
races. Brandon O’Neal is always looking up a new fun game on a
well-respected internet site for P.E. games to keep them active and moving
the whole class time. And, you may recall, Mary Hibdon came up with
the Human Foosball Game that the children loved. We are blessed to
have three wonderful P.E. teachers that take the time to make P.E. class
time effective and fun!
Did
you know the canned food boxes that are given away at Thanksgiving contain
a note from some of our MTCS students? Marvene Woodruff has already
started having her elementary computer classes create notes on the
computer to wish these families a “Happy Thanksgiving” from the MTCS
students. LaNita Bowman’s classes will start on this soon. Thanks,
ladies!
The
PK-4 teachers have been more messy than they usually are in class
this week. They are cutting open the top of a pumpkin and
letting their little darlings dig out the pulp and seeds from the inside
(and roasting the seeds to eat! YUM!). I heard comments coming
from some of our little cougars like, “That’s disgusting!”, and
“Gross!”, but most of them were giggling the whole time. Gayle
Wright explained to her students that Jesus cleans out our insides when we
want to follow Him and then let’s us shine for HIM just like the candle
does inside the Jack-O-Lantern. Nice Touch… and THEY GOT IT!
If
you haven’t already, you must check out the cool pumpkins on display in
the hallway that Kathy Oxley’s class did! Holidays are fun.
Use this time to create memories!
I
wish you lots of treats and no tricks this weekend!
