ELEMENTARY HAPPENINGS
September 28, 2007
Spencer brought some big, striped
caterpillars to Carolyn Wooldridge’s 3rd grade class.
The students were thrilled to watch one transform into a chrysalis
before their very eyes! They
enjoyed seeing a Monarch butterfly emerge from one chrysalis yesterday and
enjoyed the wonder of God’s creation!
Mike Pruitt
’s 4th
graders used live flowers to learn the
different parts of a flower and how they reproduce and make seeds.
The students examined each part under a magnifier and documented
their findings.
Did you know that Valerie
DeHoff teaches critical thinking skills in her music classes?
Well, she does! The
students are learning music concepts and skills while also learning skills
that transfer to other subjects. No
wonder research shows that students engaging in regular music instruction
do better in school!
Our Spanish teacher, Senora
Eddy, teaches more than just the language.
She also teaches the students something about the culture and
history of Spanish speaking countries.
They were recently discussing
Mexico
’s Independence Day which is celebrated on Sept.16.
Mary Webb
’s 4th
graders did some interesting language arts
activities recently, and one was called “cubing.”
The students were each given an object and asked to describe it,
compare it, tell what it reminded them of, analyze it, and argue for or
against it. Students used
short phrases or words and will later use it for a writing activity.
Teresa Richardson’s 1st graders
used Skittles in math recently.
They sorted, tallied as they counted them, then made pictographs
and bar graphs from their work. They
compared data and finally got to eat them!
Fun!!
