ELEMENTARY HAPPENINGS
January 25, 2008
The kindergarteners each dressed as a favorite nursery rhyme character last
Friday. They had spent the
week revisiting some of those famous rhymes and tasting Georgie Porgie
Pudding, Jack ‘n Jill Juice, and other treats.
The P.E. teachers have been doing a jump rope unit in preparation for Jump
Rope for Heart this week. The
students have learned to jump rope in a variety of ways!
We hope to have the total collected for the American Heart
Association in next week’s focus.
Joyce Rucker and Kelley Vick host a Breakfast Club at 7:00 A.M. on
the last Friday of each month for any 5th or 6th grader willing to get up
and come. They either meet at
McDonald’s and walk over to school for an early morning devo, or the
teachers prepare breakfast for them. 20
showed up today! Dr.
Rucker’s husband, “Bid Ed”, spoke about traps that the devil uses to
catch us. He mentioned
stealing, drinking, etc. as those “big traps” and tripped a real rat
trap as a visual. Gossiping,
glancing at someone’s test answers, and justifying a bad choice because
“everyone’s doing it” were examples of “little traps” as he
tripped smaller mouse traps. It
seems the kids got it!
At a
previous Breakfast Club, Dr. Rucker shared the importance of inner beauty
as she cut open beautiful red apples for them to eat.
The only problem: the
apples were all black inside! She
had given them a shot of food coloring!
The students understood that point, too!
Kelley
recently reflected on A Bad Case of the Stripes at a devo to
encourage students to have the confidence to be themselves.
